Tom Twiss' Rebuild

Tom and Pennie Twiss recognized a classic when they bought their Sande Ace in 1978 from a fellow in Poulsbo for $1000. It is shown below in temporary dry dock in 2005. Considerable time and effort were needed to get the boat in this great shape.

The transom brace had already been beefed up and the steering had been moved to the front to handle the 65 HP Mercury outboard that it had at the time they bought it. They used it with two motors for three years until they set it aside to raise kids. In 1987, they started their rebuild.

1. Taking the Ace apart.
2. Disassembled with old parts bundled together to use as patterns. The project then stalled for eight years.
