Sande Ace Rendezvous 2012

Tom and Susanne could not stay but here are the rest at the Waali beach following the cruise of lower Hood Canal.

Eight years of the Sande Ace Rendezvous?  Yes,indeed and there were a record setting six Aces in the water along with a 1948 Sande cedar strip boat.  We met again at Twanoh State Park. The Waali's came by water but we had fun inspecting the rest in the parking lot.

The routine was the same so some of these pictures might be similar to previous years.   Fans of these boats, though, never get tired looking at them!

After launching, we cruised to the west along the South Shore, slowing at various places so friends could get good looks at us.  We crossed the Canal to go by the Reuel Sande house which is across the road from where our boats were built.  We then continued down the Canal to pass the Waali place and neighbors.  Then, we crossed to Alderbrook and Union, headed back to the North Shore at Bald Point and ended back at the Waali place.   Click here for video from the Rendezvous.

Tom took and narrated videos of the boats including his Scooter shown here.

Here is Roy's Ace which is the first that Bob restored to a beautiful condition.

Bob and Jan stand by their Sande Ace which was the third one that Bob restored!
Bob's second restoration is closeby but the new owner could not make it this year.

Ned's Sande Ace, looking great as usual.

Tom and Pennie stand with their Sande Ace and its 65 HP Suzuki.

Ed shows the fenders he made in the 1960's from the foam of an old ski belt.  Remember ski belts?

This was the second year for the Matthews' 1948 Sande cedar strip boat.

Ned's Merc 400. He should have a Merc 500 next year.

Bob's Merc 500.

Roy's Mark 58A.  From Montana via Idaho, the motor pushes his Ace quite well.

The Regan's Mark 35A....at least that's was the faceplate said!
Scooter really goes fast.  Did anyone look under the cover?

The Waali's motor with its Merc 450 powerhead plus parts from 3 other models.

Here's the big 65-HP Suzuki on the Twiss Ace.  The transom had been beefed up to hold it.

This 1954 10-HP Johnson powers the Matthews boat at a pretty good speed.

Jan holds the Ace for Bob.

Five of the six Aces are shown with the Matthews boat in the distance.  Roy was off camera.

Ned explains why he thinks Bob's current Sande Ace is the one that his father bought originally.

John is at the tiller for the trip back to Twanoh.
